The world's largest online retailer said the jobs are for full-time and part-time work in its home country and Canada, and will include those jobs in the 100 new warehouses and operation locations it will open this month.
The Seattle-based company employed 876,800 people as of June 30, excluding contractors and temporary employees.
The news reflects Amazon's continuing need for workers to pick, package, and ship products to shoppers' doors, with a 40% increase in revenue in the past quarter and the largest gain in the retailer's 26-year history. Alicia Buller Davis, Amazon Vice President of Global Customer Satisfaction, said she is implementing automation in its latest buildings at the same time.
"We will continue to deploy technology as and when required, starting with a safety perspective" and "as we can improve our overall operations," Bowler Davis said in an interview.
