The Hubble telescope, one of the most necessary scientific devices ever built, celebrated its 30th anniversary in April.

To commemorate the occasion, an impressive image was released showing the star-forming region near our Milky Way.

In this stunning Hubble image, the Red Giant Nebula (NGC 2014) and its smaller blue neighbor (NGC 2020) are located in the Large Magellanic Cloud, a Milky Way galaxy 163,000 light-years away.

Nebulae are massive clouds of interstellar gas and dust where star formation can occur.

At the heart of NGC 2014 is a cluster of bright stars, each with a mass 10 to 20 times the mass of our sun.

The photo used to be known as "cosmic coral reefs" due to the fact that astronomers believed that the nebulae resembled a world under the sea.

A BBC Horizon documentary aired to coincide with the anniversary, featured stunning 3D views of the iconic Hubble Telescope, including the Pillars of Creation, part of the Eagle Nebula.
