Another video clip published by the Turkish Meteorological Directorate on social media showed thick clouds of dust hanging over homes in the capital, and the lightning showed.
The directorate said on Twitter that the sandstorm and rain will continue until 1600 GMT in the capital, which has been witnessing since late last month a drought and heat wave.
It later issued a warning of high winds and sandstorms for the neighboring Kerikkale province in central Turkey.
