Lower first dose means more people can get vaccinated faster: AstraZeneca

The British drugmaker said its vaccine for the new coronavirus could be around 90% effective without serious side effects.

London:

AstraZeneca CEO Pascal Soriot said on Monday that the lower first dose of his experimental COVID-19 vaccine meant more people can get vaccinated more quickly, as the British drugmaker revealed interim results from the latest stage of the trial.

"Being able to vaccinate more people faster is really a huge advantage," he said in a briefing.

The British pharmacist said Monday that its vaccine against the new coronavirus could be around 90% effective without serious side effects.

The vaccine developed by the University of Oxford was most effective when given as a half dose followed by a full dose at least one month apart, rather than two full doses at least one month apart.
