President Trump's order reads: "By having access to private digital devices such as smartphones, pills and computers, functions of software programs linked to China can access and seize large swaths of consumer information, including sensitive data. and personally identifiable information in my opinion. The Trump administration has increased pressure on Chinese companies in the final months of his tenure, including those it sees as a threat to national security.

Chinese social media app TikTok and telecommunications giant Huawei have been among the victims of Washington's crackdown.

The administration has also imposed restrictions on a number of Chinese and Russian companies with alleged military ties from purchasing sensitive US products and technology.
China has persistently denied allegations that these corporations share their records with Chinese authorities and has responded by imposing its personal export legal guidelines that prevent the export of military technology.
In August, the United States ordered ByteDance, the owner of the social media app TikTok, to close or sell its US assets.
Although there is no deadline to complete the sale, the United States has yet to close the application and negotiations continue on its future.
