"The Supreme Court's decision on voting in Pennsylvania is extremely dangerous," Trump wrote in his post on the two platforms.
Twitter and Facebook both reported late Monday a post by President Donald Trump that described the US Supreme Court's decision on voting in Pennsylvania as "extremely dangerous."
The U.S. Supreme Court last week allowed an extension of the mailing deadlines for ballot papers in Tuesday's elections in Pennsylvania and North Carolina, two states pivotal to Trump's re-election chances. The decision allowed for a ruling by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court allowing for mailing of ballot papers that were stamped by Election Day and received three days later.
"The Supreme Court's decision on voting in Pennsylvania is extremely dangerous," Trump wrote in his post on the two platforms. "It will allow rampant cheating unchecked and will completely undermine our legal systems. It will also spark violence in the streets. Something needs to be done!"
Twitter added a disclaimer to Trump's tweet, saying its content was "disputed" and "may be misleading."
A Twitter spokesperson told Reuters the measure was in line with Twitter's "civil integrity policy," saying that social media would significantly restrict the platform from interactions in the tweet.
This Twitter disclaimer included a link to information about how voting by mail is "legal and safe."
Facebook has published a disclaimer saying that voting by mail and voting in person have a "history of trustworthiness" in the United States, with voter fraud rare.
